๐ฃ Review Pulse for Steam
Free ยท MIT license
A tiny self-hosted script that watches one Steam game and posts every new Steam review to a Discord channel. Point it at a private dev channel and your team sees feedback as it lands, without refreshing the store page.

What each post shows
- ๐ Recommended or ๐ Not recommended, in green or red
- An excerpt of the review (up to 300 characters)
- The reviewer’s playtime when they wrote it, and the review’s language
- A link to the review on Steam
- Steam’s own totals: total reviews, % positive and Steam’s label (for example “Very Positive”)
It doesn’t score or judge anything itself. The numbers come straight from Steam’s public review data; “% positive” is just Steam’s positive count divided by its total. The totals cover all languages and purchase types, so they can differ slightly from your store page’s headline number.
How it works
- One Python file, standard library only. No dependencies and no Steam API key.
- Runs once (good for cron) or keeps running and checks every N minutes. A Dockerfile is included.
- No duplicates: it remembers what it posted. A review is only marked as posted after Discord accepts it, so a failed post is retried next time.
- The first run posts just the 3 newest reviews so you can see it working; older reviews are never dumped into your channel.
- Mentions in review text (like @everyone) never ping anyone.
cp .env.example .env # set STEAM_APP_ID and DISCORD_WEBHOOK_URL python review_pulse.py --every 15
Testing status
Tested (Oct 19, 2026): 10 unit tests, and live runs that posted real reviews of two games with active reviews into a real Discord channel. A second run posted no duplicates, and the totals in the posts matched Steam’s API. Not tested yet: the Dockerfile (it hasn’t been built in our QA) and running on Windows. It’s plain Python, so it should work there, but we haven’t run it.
Good to know: Steam’s review list can lag. In our test one response was about an hour behind, so reviews sometimes arrive in a small burst (real new reviews, not repeats). Steam’s review endpoint is public but undocumented, and Valve can change or limit it at any time.
Want more than new-review alerts?
Our paid Intel for Steam: Indie Dev Toolkit groups your reviews into themes with a “fix first” list, alerts you when negative reviews spike, and posts a daily competitor digest. For many small games, the free Review Pulse is all you need.
